What Ahmedabad needs to do beyond celebrating its ‘world heritage city’ tag

On Saturday, the walled city of Ahmedabad 600 years has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, making it the first city in India to obtain this label. The Old City or the walled city of Ahmedabad stretches over 5.35 square kilometers and is home to havelis, ancient markets, clusters and historical shrines.

There is much to celebrate on the UNESCO label. On the one hand, extend the discourse of heritage conservation of cities rather than unique monuments that brings hope that more attention will be directed to the infrastructure problems facing these cities. This is good news for many other historic cities in India like Varanasi, Agra, Lucknow, Hyderabad and Madurai.

“Heritage” is a very controversial word because of what is called heritage is born of historical narratives, which are invariably also political narratives. A legacy is willing to be more equal than others, some stories are strongly affirmed and some are conveniently forgotten. Similarly, some heritage buildings are very important and some are ignored, depending on their political legacy. Therefore, a heritage city is wider than monuments.

However, celebrations are not ends in themselves and supports can not replace planning and public management. Our cities face perpetual historical challenges – the abandonment of historic buildings, traffic congestion, water and sanitation crises and waste management are some of them. So when we reclassify a city as historic heritage or town, we need to think again about its management and planning.

Conventionally, urban planning in India has ignored historical cities in defining them as “lord areas” (which excludes the jurisdiction of planning authorities) or officials have used draconian general prohibitions or procedures for the reconstruction of historic buildings Historic cities. We have no tradition of conservation planners and government architects working together to design building codes adapted to the historic areas of a city.

The discourse on heritage conservation has to move away from the “list and zoning” approach (where heritage buildings are marked in identified areas and conservation efforts), which deals with heritage buildings such as islands in the urban fabric in Place an extension of the area is located. We must move towards a more rounded approach to governance, in which a historic building that is treated as a facade or a sculpture, but as an extension of the life and culture of the street.

The conservation of heritage does not only mean adornment. If Mathura, considered the birthplace of Lord Krishna, lack basic sanitation facilities and is bordered by mounds of waste without picking up, then what use of painting and painting his ghats or decoration Jharokhas! Ajmer and that they should, with a sewerage coverage of 15%, spend Rs 300 million rupees for sailboats and various levels of parking?

Similarly, Ahmedabad also – while celebrating its heritage seal – will focus on its various problems. The famous ancient city that has earned this honor Ahmedabad is now a shadow of what it was.

Spider-Man: Homecoming trailer — Iron Man tells Peter Parker to be ‘friendly, neighbourhood’ superhero

Spider-Man: Homecoming trailer — Iron Man tells Peter Parker to be ‘friendly, neighbourhood’ superhero

Peter Parker, Tom Holland, clearly hypnotized by Tony Stark and does not believe him when he says that Parker can keep up the demand. Tony Stark, however, is his usual indifference and sarcasm. In a particularly funny shooting Stark tries to open the car door for Parker, who assumes Stark tries to hug him and decides to give him a hug.

North Korea border object was balloon, says South

South Korea says an item floating on the North Korean border Tuesday appears to have been a balloon carrying propaganda flyers.
South Korean soldiers fired 90 machine guns at the flying object.
North Korea has flown unmanned drones at the border with the past and the incident occurred at a time of high tension around the heavily guarded border.
The South said balloons were likely to have come from North Korea.
South Korean activists have often flown balloons carrying propaganda messages and light anti-Pyongyang products, such as snacks in North Korea, to the frustration of South authorities.
However, Defense Ministry spokesman Luna Sang-Gyun said on Tuesday that the object was spherical, non-cylindrical as balloon activists.
‘Destabilizing behavior’
South Korea’s new president, Moon Jae-in, said last week that there was a “great chance” of a border conflict.
The pace of North Korea’s missile tests has increased in recent months and experts fear that this indicates progress toward Pyongyang’s ultimate goal of putting a nuclear warhead on a missile that could reach the continental United States.
On Sunday, North Korea said it had carried out a “success” test of a mid-range ballistic missile.
This happened a week after North Korea proved what it said was a new type of rocket capable of carrying a large nuclear warhead.
The UN Security Council held a private meeting in North Korea on Tuesday. In a statement Monday it agreed to “take other important steps, including sanctions” to force North Korea to end its “highly destabilizing behavior.”
But North Korea’s historic ally and chief trading partner, China, said the priority was to push for diplomatic talks.
Chinese Ambassador to the UN Liu Jieyi said: “There is no reason why dialogue does not take place in the current situation” and stressed that progress in the past “has been achieved as a result of dialogue.”

Sonam Kapoor vs Aishwarya Rai vs Deepika Padukone? Sonam Kapoor calls these post-Cannes comparisons ‘foolish’

Sonam Kapoor vs Aishwarya Rai vs Deepika Padukone? Sonam Kapoor calls these post-Cannes comparisons ‘foolish’

Sonam Kapoor could have been mistakenly classified Deepika Padukone in Cannes by the foreign press this year, but does it affect Sonam? We do not believe this because this light beauty knows exactly why she is here and really knows how to have fun doing what she likes the most. She is expected when she goes to Cannes, and she jumps and says a chocolate croissant.
Shabana Azmi tweeted at the time, Cannes was not so much about fashion, but about movies. Do you think this is the situation of the Cannes Film Festival today?
No I dont think so. It’s a film festival and everyone works for their movies, but I’m here on behalf of L’Oréal Paris is a make-up brand. If I went in here, a movie, you give me a very different way, but since I’m walking to the composition and the brand of glamor, it makes sense to wear makeup and have fun.

Until a few years later, the players were not worried about how they looked when they traveled. But it has changed, what do you say?
I can take my credit for that, I guess (dress well at the airport). But I will not take into account the situation at the airport, because I never called the press at the airport to cover things “identified by the airport.” Most of the time when I’m at the airport, the press is not called. I would not call the paparazzi when I have my personal time at all. On the red carpet, I love dressing. This happened after my sister became my stylist, and I’m still there. My sister and my team make sure I look good being myself, and that’s what I like. I take no credit for anything more standing and smiling.
What about the representation of Indian films in Cannes?
I do not know why too many Indian films do not come to Cannes. But I only know that the Indian market is very different from the international market. We do not have a typical formula, especially at the last moment a movie succeeds as well. Take Neerja Dangal or even, for example. As soon as you hear the film festival has a label, producers believe that it will not work well commercially. This may be because many producers do not enter their films at festivals, unless we need someone to distribute them. This is my experience, I can not say for all. A movie like Slumdog Millionaire has become a hit worldwide because of the holidays too, like the lunch box. So there are different aspects of the story. But then, India is a closed market, and we benefit. I am not the right person to do a business analysis, but this exit is very humble.
Deepika Padukone get many critics in other international aspects of the red carpet, but in Cannes, you can appreciate its appearance. What do you think he’s done here?
I think he was amazing in all his appearances! It looks fun and it is in itself. She looks amazing!
Also read | Cannes 2017: Sonam Kapoor Deepika Padukone is confused by foreign media. When will it ever end?
All of this, compared to Aishwarya Rai in Cannes, will now be compared to Deepika Padukone as well. Your comments, do you think it is unfair to compare?
Comparisons are not in my head, that’s what the media. They must decide whether it is good or bad, because it is they who oppose women against the other when they should celebrate all. It is not me, it is another person, I do not consider this culture, I consider this madness. I did not even settle.
